Thank you for taking the time to visit my web site and I hope you enjoy what you see!
I began working in clay at a young age when my mother (a potter) brought me to art
shows and I wanted to sell my creations too. I quickly fell in love with clay, and
graduated as a studio art major from The College Of Wooster in 1993. After graduation I
attended The Columbus College of Art and Design part-time, and earned a Masters
Degree in social work from The Ohio State University in 2003.
I enjoy sculpting from nature, and have been making cement garden sculptures for
many years, using photographs and book illustrations as reference. When I sculpt an
animal, I try to make it realistic, yet unique, as each original piece is crafted with its own
personality.
I have been employed as an artist for a costume shop and for small companies making
animatronic haunted house characters and scenery. Most recently I worked for a visual
effects business that created a jungle scene for a water park ride out west.

Sculptures are created in modeling clay. I then make a one or more part mold of the
object, brushing on as many as 20 layers of latex, a process that may take several days.
Next a sturdy "mother mold" in ultracal is created to hold the latex. Finally cement can
be poured into the mold. After the pieces are dry, some are painted in acrylic while others
are left natural.
Tiles are made in a similar manner as sculptures. For nature tiles I use scientific
illustrations as reference material. Sometimes the pieces are left natural, or they may be
painted with acrylics or copper patina when they dry.
All paintings are mixed-media, composed of found objects, acrylic paint, and various
types of clay. I often sculpt objects for the painting separately, and then attach them to
the work surface.
