My Sculptures with Found Objects

Traditionally many of my works are made from recycled spindles, nutcrackers, and other found objects.  I like bringing together disparate elements and creating a unified whole.  My favorite shopping places are thrift stores, garage sales, and flea markets as I enjoy finding use for bits and pieces that others have discarded.  For the wood items I spend time sanding and scraping away old paint and applying primer in a few layers before beginning the actual piece.  I sculpt the features with an epoxy clay, manipulating it to shape fine details.  Afterwards I begin the intricate painting process.  I tend to use a lot of dry brushing and washes to achieve the desired effects.
